Applying for Jobs


During the fall semester, scholars will participate in a series of webinars focused on “Getting Ready to Apply” (searching for job openings, writing a CV and cover letter), “Initial Interviews” (how to prepare for and conduct Skype and phone interviews), and “Getting Ready for On-Campus Visits” (preparing job talks and creating 1 and 5 year plans). Scholars will submit sample covers letters and CVs for written feedback and will practice job talks with faculty evaluations following.


Accepting and Starting your First Job


During the spring semester, scholars will participate in a series of webinars focused on job offers (e.g., negotiating, fielding multiple offers), writing small scale grants (research or teacher training), and collaboration during the first year (e.g., with other universities, with organizations, and taking on leadership opportunities). Scholars will also listen to panels of experts discussing topics such as transitioning to a new job, work/life balance, and later career experiences such as renegotiating, evaluations, and promotions. Scholars will practice writing small grants and creating the first year plan for potential publications.
