KATHERINE SARGENT is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in special education at Vanderbilt University. She grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and attended the University of Dayton. She received a Bachelor’s degree in special education. After graduating, she joined the Peace Corps and served for 2.5 years in Kazakhstan. While there, she worked with a center for students with disabilities and partnered with a local school to develop an inclusive education program. After the Peace Corps, Katherine moved to Hawaii where she taught special education in a resource room setting for grades 3-5. She then moved to Nashville to earn her Master’s in high incidence disabilities before beginning her Ph.D. studies. In her free time, Katie enjoys travel, hiking, and spending time with family and friends.
